Assessment & Reporting Policy

Overview: Assessment at  Al Fanar is an ongoing, formative process embedded within the rhythm of daily learning experiences. It is designed to support the whole child, integrating cognitive, emotional, and physical domains of development.

Assessment Philosophy:

  • Our approach is informed by the Head, Heart, and Hands framework, emphasizing that assessment is not only about academic achievement but also about emotional and social growth. We incorporate a comprehensive assessment strategy that includes both formative, developmental observations and formal testing to provide a well-rounded view of each child's learning journey.

  • We believe in authentic assessment practices that allow children to express their learning through diverse, child-led mediums, minimizing reliance on standardized testing.

Assessment Practices

Early Learning Centre (ELC):

  • Observation and documentation are key to understanding each child’s developmental journey. Teachers engage in reflective practices to track progress and adapt learning experiences accordingly.

  • Communication with parents is consistent, with a focus on sharing developmental observations, not just academic outcomes.

  • Primary Years:

    • Assessment in Primary Years builds upon the foundational practices of the ELC, introducing more structured reflection, self-assessment, and peer engagement. While we prioritize developmental, observational, and child-led assessments, we also incorporate formal assessments in line with KHDA and National Curriculum of England (NCoE) requirements. These include CAT4, NGRT, and Arabic Language Testing, as well as other benchmark assessments that provide insight into academic progress while maintaining our holistic focus. In addition to formative assessments,  Al Fanar complies with KHDA and National Curriculum of England (NCoE) requirements, conducting formal assessments such as CAT4, NGRT, and Arabic Language Testing, alongside other required benchmark testing.

    • Formal reporting occurs termly, with emphasis on growth and developmental progress rather than comparative metrics.

Communication & Reporting

  • Reporting is aligned with our values of warmth, clarity, and transparency. Each report serves as a narrative, providing insights into the child’s experiences, strengths, and areas for further exploration.

  • Teachers provide termly reflections, incorporating input from both the child and family to create a comprehensive overview of each learner’s journey.
