Connection Before Correction

At Al Fanar School, we believe that meaningful relationships are the foundation of all learning. Our approach to behaviour is not about control — it’s about connection. We understand that every child brings a unique story, temperament, and way of engaging with the world. Our responsibility is to create a safe, respectful environment where each child feels seen, supported, and able to thrive.

Relationships at the Centre

We view behaviour as a form of communication. Rather than focusing on punishment or compliance, our relational approach seeks to understand what a child may be experiencing or needing in the moment. We respond with empathy, curiosity, and care — always guided by the principle that strong relationships enable deep learning and long-term emotional growth.

The Role of the Adult

Our staff act as steady, nurturing guides — providing calm, predictable support that helps children develop self-regulation and social awareness. We aim to model respectful interactions, co-create expectations with children, and maintain clear, kind boundaries that help everyone feel safe and valued.

Supporting Behaviour Positively

We take a proactive, inclusive approach to behaviour. Rather than using public rewards, charts, or punishments, we focus on:

  • Building strong connections between children and adults

  • Supporting emotional regulation through consistent routines and environments

  • Encouraging reflection, repair, and personal growth

  • Creating individualised support plans when needed

Our goal is always to help children return to a state of connection — with themselves, their peers, and their learning.

A Safe and Supportive Environment

Our classrooms and shared spaces are thoughtfully designed to promote calm, focus, and a sense of belonging. Children learn best when their environments support their physical, emotional, and sensory needs — and we ensure our school spaces reflect that.

Working in Partnership with Families

Families are our partners in supporting each child’s growth. We maintain open, respectful communication and offer opportunities for parents to learn more about our approach. Together, we co-create a consistent experience between home and school, grounded in trust and shared values.

At Al Fanar, relational practice isn’t a programme — it’s a way of being. We believe every interaction is a chance to build trust, foster resilience, and help children grow into capable, compassionate individuals.
